Val Kilmer's Pecos River Ranch

Pecos River Ranch owns 6 beautiful miles of the Pecos River, offering something for every angler, from the novice to the veteran. Expect easy wading and a variety of challenges, from pocket water to long, sweeping riffles and deep pools. In a single day you can fish dries, nymphs, and streamers. Depending on rainfall and snow-pack, the river runs between 90 cfs in the winter to 600 cfs at the height of runoff in the late spring.

Because of their southern latitude and relatively low altitude, PRR's fishing season is exceptionally long. When most other fisheries are frozen, they still have warm, sunny days and insects hatching. March, April, May, October, and early November can be some of the best months to fish. In most cases, daytime temperatures during these months are above 55°F and can even climb well into the 70s.

The aquatic insect life here is abundant, with many varieties of stoneflies, caddis, mayflies, crane flies, and midges. Hatches happen often and usually involve more than one type of insect. Baitfish and even crawfish also make up a significant portion of the trout’s diet.

Pecos River Ranch does not employ a standardized beat system. Instead, you may enjoy a daily fishing itinerary to suit your particular interests. There is so much water that you’ll rarely fish the same stretch of river unless you prefer to do so.
